We stayed in Jan 2012. A huge GRACIAS to the staff and friendly other guests who made our stay muy fabuloso.
My husband became ill during our trip and the staff was most accomodating. A very special GRACIAS to Mirna from Housekeeping, a true professional with a heart of gold.
Can't wait to return in 2013 (minus the hospital stay)! |

We just stayed at the Tropicana for 3 weeks in December for the 2nd year in a row. We have stayed at other PVR hotels, resorts but as long as the Tropicana stays as close as it can to the same as it is now, we plan on coming back every year for 3-4 weeks and have started bringing other couples who love it just as much.We always get a room with view, to good not to pay alittle more.Chow and Umberto at the beach are fabulous and helpful in every way. Exchange money at the Bank 2 blocks over for best rate by far.Walk to Sea Monkey Bar and then Cheeky Monkey in the same day, one for lunch, one for dinner. Try Los Burros on the beach at sunset. So many places close by to eat and drink, just writing about it makes me miss it already.See you in December. Thanks for a great vacation, again! |

We have just come back from our 3rd stay at the Tropicana. It is and will remain our favorite place to stay in P.V. From Marcella, to Roberto and even Ester they all contribute to making it feel like we are coming home.It is clean, friendly and the breakfast plan is well worth it. On our next stay we will upgrade to a junior suite as they have a beautiful view. I do not want to tell a lot of people about this jewel for fear of over crowding and changing the peaceful atmosphere. The Tropicana has retained the great flavour of Mexico and is within walking distance to so many good restaurants. Thank you everyone at the Tropicana and see you soon |
Aidan - London ONtario March 5th, 2011 at 1:41 PM
Just got back from a week at the Tropicana! Yes the rooms are a little worn but for the price, you forget about it. There are so many staff and they are always cleaning! Every staff person is exceptionaly pleasant and goes out of their way to make your stay comfortable. The common areas are gorgeous, including the grand foyer, lobby, pool, restaurant and bar. The food at the restaurant was quite good and very reasonably priced. The location is IDEAL, right on the beach and seconds away from all the PV action. It would be ideal if they upgraded their wireless so it'd be available beyond the lobby. We will absolutely return! |

We spent this past Feb break at the Tropicana, and other then a hard bed, the hotel was great. I especially wanted to thank the staff for their extra care in the later part of our stay. I injured my ankle on day 5 of our 7 day stay and was in a cast. The staff went above and beyond to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. They also provided me with a wheel chair to make getting around easier and one of the bell-men even offered to wheel me around the hotel. Overall, I found the hotel to be very clean and centrally located to lots of great attractions. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I myself will stay there the next time we go to PV. |

We are coming to the Tropicana next week for the 6th time. They have the best beach and we can walk to all the resturants and bars we like. The hotel is old but clean and our waiter, Umberto always takes care of us. There is plenty of activity on the beach and we always enjoy ourselves. |

My husband and I have vacationed in Puerto Vallarta for 25 yrs. Up until last winter we have always stayed in the Hotel Zone. We've stayed at several different hotels in that area and liked them all. Last winter we decided to stay in the Romantic Zone and randomly chose Hotel Tropicana. We LOVED it there! Last yr we stayed in a superior rm overlooking the ocean and we liked that. This yr our rm is standard so I'm not sure what to expect but judging from the comments I've read by other guests it seems to be luck of the draw. We ate breakfast at the hotel most mornings last yr and liked it. The hotel and grounds are very well kept. Just a few short weeks until we're there. Can't wait. |
Terry Sandy - St Louis, Mo January 26th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
I've stayed here every year but one. The staff is very nice and helpful. Have always stayed in a Superior room. This year I was in an even number room and was kind of disappaointed in the view from the balcony.Next year I will request an odd numbered room. The only con I have about staying here is the WiFi. It only works in the Lobby. It was down for the last 2 days I was there and the front desk staff didn't seem to care when asked about it. I will stay again but hopefully next year they will add better Internet connection. |

Can't wait to see everyone at the Tropicana! My partner and I are returning for our third stay at this wonderful hotel. We have visited PV many times and have decided that this hotel is perfect for us. Located in the Romantica Zone, all of our favorite haunts are within walking distance. Great staff, quiet pool, breathtaking views and good food are only a few of the benefits. We have no desire to stay anywhere else. |
Leila Rigaux - Calgary, AB December 22nd, 2010 at 3:48 PM
We stayed at the Tropicana for a week at the beginning of December. It was a very quiet time there so the service was above and beyond friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, tucked away on the south side of the Romantic Zone. The restaurant had a limited menu but the food was very good. The pool area was quiet and very neat and pretty, and we all enjoyed the turtle pond. The sound of the ocean took a bit of getting used to but the view from the balcony was totally worth it. I am not sure I will bother to stay anywhere else in Vallarta whenever I am there. It was a lovely little pearl of a hotel and a great value. |
Sara - Calgary, AB, Canada October 28th, 2010 at 12:31 PM
Have just book trip three to Mexico, and for the third time we will be staying at the Tropicana. We loved if from the first time - quiet, friendly, and location, location, location! We never ran out of places to eat or wander. Breakfast every morning at the hotel, coffee up the street and a wander out later for lunch/dinner. Book stores, pharmacies, corner stores all over the place - and everything in walking distance. Day or night.
The staff there is fantastic. Always smiling, no matter the hour. Food was decent, drink decent, and yes - rock hard beds. However, we found we were so exhausted by the end of the beach-filled day we didn't care - pretty much asleep as soon as our head hit the pillow.
Beach isn't private, but the sellers weren't pushy. A simple shake of the head or avoiding eye contact would deter them.
The only thing we learned the hard way is get up early and reserve your palapa with a towel or something - some vacationers get pretty angry if you don't know this rule.
Overall, 100% - quiet, peaceful, clean, welcoming every year. We didn't even consider staying anywhere else. |
Michael & Karen - Houston, TX April 30th, 2010 at 5:36 PM
We stayed at the Hotel Tropicana from 4/24 to 4/29.
We stayed in room #729 with a single and double bed. Yes the beds are hard. I did as advised and put blankets down and remade the bed.
Pro's: Beautiful view of the bay. Clean rooms, hot water, excellent service, clean beach, had a palapa every day. If you "try" to speak the language everyone is even friendlier.
Cons: A/C's not very good, beds are hard, not enough outlets (we brought an adapter and surge protected power cord), No black out curtains. No shade at the pool. Beach is not private. Beach vendors hit us up, every 3-5 minutes.
Overall we are very satisfied. We got great rates, the hotel is clean and very beautiful. The staff was very nice and attentive. Centrally located; within walking distance to everything. There was always a taxi outside our hotel if we didnt want to walk. There was a deli and pharmacy right across the street for any needs.
Suggestions for the hotel: get one of those canvas shades to go over part of the pool. Our room had a safe, but no lock,..Add locks. Restaurant needs more selection(but the food was good).
Great price, great hotel. We WILL be back. |
Anthony - New York, USA April 14th, 2010 at 12:32 PM
I stayed with my wife in April 2010 for one week on the 5th floor (Ocean View). We were very impressed with the hotel:
- Price: the rate for our double ocean view room was reduced while we were there because the manager thought that business was a little slow, which was a nice suprise.
- Clean: basic, but clean. There were no issues with dirt, bugs etc. The room cleaner was very good. Clean pool and beach.
- Location: it's in the romantic area. This means that if you just walk north, you won't miss anything.
- Service: the ladies (and gentleman) at front desk were very helpful indeed. They knew just about everything about PV: not just the tourist activities.
Cons?
- Well, breakfast is not included in the price, but the price was good so I can't really complain about that.
- The wireless internet did not stretch to the 5th floor, but, again, if you're emailing in your room, why are you on vacation? There really wasn't an issue with occasionally connecting in the lobby to see if I missed an emergency in the office.
- The bar is expensive for what you get (plastic cups etc). You're better off buying your beer from the local store (there's one on a near corner) and taking that to the beach in a cooler (which they also sell).
Overall I'd certainly go back.
Overall, we would definitely go back. |

Hotel Tropicana was recommended to us by our neighbours who have stayed many times previously. It was above and beyond our expectations. Clean, quiet, drop dead gorgeous balcony views. Room was always fresh and cleaned, compliments of the great staff. I was happy to get home to my own bed as ours was like plywood though. They did put a thin topper on it for us though. The hotel could not be anymore conveniently located. You can walk for miles. There is always something to do or see.
GREAT VACATION cant wait to go back!! Feb2010 |
Jim & Kerry - Alberta, Canada February 3rd, 2010 at 9:39 PM
We spent the last 10 days of January 2010 in Puerto Vallarta and resided at the Hotel Tropicana. We must say that the cleanliness of the rooms was a 10/10, staff was excellent and location was superb. We are already planning our vacation there in 2011 and will be staying at this hotel again. |
Robert L - Montreal, Canada January 14th, 2010 at 10:55 AM
I have stayed there many times in the last 3 years.
It is the best place in old vallarta...price is right, clean, view of the ocean from guest room is amazing...and the hotel is quiet and very clean.
Staff is friendly and the hotel is close to everything in old vallarta...you can walk for dinner in one of those nice restaurant.
The beach is great...might be a little too dangerous for swimming since the waves are very strong.
And best of all Puerto Vallarta is sunny and warm all winter. |

My sister and I try to come back every other year and out of the 18 yrs. we've been going we came across the Tropicana and stayed there the last few times and it was absolutely wonderful. Friendly staff, great location, rooms nice and clean. I've also brought my husband, mom, dad, sister, niece, daughter, granddaughter to stay at the Tropicana and we all just love it. We'll be back next winter. |
Glenn MacKeigan - Ontario Canada May 9th, 2009 at 6:50 PM
We stayed in one of the suites last year and loved it. It was spacious, clean and the little kitchenette was a great feature. The view from the balcony was spectacular! Loved the pool and the staff was very friendly. Drink prices are great!
Its in the best location in Puerto Vallarta. |
Jean-Guy - Vancouver April 5th, 2009 at 9:23 AM
Once again I stayed at the Tropicana on my last visit to P.V.
Your staff is friendly and the room was a delight. Marcella went out of her way to make sure that my beach chair was ready every morning and enjoy the friendly atmosphere surrounding your hotel. I shall be glad to stay again on my next visit. |

I stayed in your horel from March4th to 11th 2009 and enjoy it. The room always kept clean and the staff very friendly. It's very well located in old city. |
Elaine - British Columbia March 9th, 2009 at 1:09 PM
My husband and I stayed the first week of March. The staff was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful, the beach is great, and the location is perfect. Everything in town is within walking distance, or you can easily jump on a city bus and go wherever you like. Our room was very spartan, but clean and surprisingly quiet. As other have commented, the beds are very firm! |
Kevin - ontario January 14th, 2009 at 3:01 PM
My friend and I really enjoyed our stay here. Everyone was very friendly, the place is in a great location, and we will definately stay again. |
john albert reid - canada January 9th, 2009 at 6:42 PM
In February 2009 I will be returning for my fifth year. This hotel has everything you need. It has no spa, no convention centre, no shopping mall, no kid's club and no loud music in the lobby. What else can you ask for? You step off the property onto the sand. The pool is an oasis of calm with a small refreshing pool. No slides, no water falls, no aquafitness and no cheap contests. The rooms are spartan and clean and problems are corrected pronto. The neighbourhood is full of small excellent restaurants with no pretensious menus or waiters. Take your time! You're in Mexico! |
Dillon - Fort St. John Canada January 7th, 2009 at 10:00 PM
Well my first vacation to PV was fab. I loved the Hotel tropicana. The service was wonderful. Some of the servers had a bit of attitudebut for the most part we were well treated. I do suggest to NOT get a cheap room. You will have no view and the room is small. Also there are no fridges or coffee makers in the room. (You can buy a cheap kooler and the bar will stock it free with ice). But the food a breakfast brunch was great tasting and they had a good variety. Being right on the beach was the best thing about this hotel. Also this Hotel is in old PV so nice to be close to all the little shops and great selection of restaurants. Would I stay there again? Yes..but they do have to get better beds. HARD and hard to sleep on. |
Carolan and Jamie - Edmonton- Canada December 30th, 2008 at 8:52 AM
We stayed at your hotel this past Xmas Week.
Being a many time visitor to Puerto Vallarta it was my first time at your Hotel. I was really happy with everything. From the ease of check in, at 4am in the morning, to the room cleanliness, prompt maid service, room was always cleaned by noon everyday, to the courteous, and friendly staff. The breakfast that was included was excellent. We stayed on the 5th floor with an ocean view room and it was breathtaking. This is the best beach I have ever stayed at in Puerto. We look forward to coming back this spring. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. |

Great place, Great Staff, Great Location. We have been coming to the Tropicana for many years, and love the place. Right on the beach, with the nicest staff in PV. Bed are a bit hard, though. But what the heck, we can put up with that for a week or two. Be back in January. |
MJR - Regina November 10th, 2008 at 10:45 AM
Wonderful hotel - amazing location - friendly staff... what more can a person ask for. I've been travelling to Puerto Vallarta for 11 years and have stayed at the Tropicana for 4 of those times. Enjoyed my stay each time. Looking forward to spending another Christmas/New Years at the Tropicana in December 08. |

We LOVED the private balcony with a view of palm trees and blue ocean! The sound of the waves were so soothing.
We appreciated how clean it was and how welcoming the staff were. We plan on returning to PV next year.

I will admit I'm a hotel snob...for lack of any 4 star options in the area of Zona Romantica...we booked. Sure I'd like the bathrooms updated, but for the price it's a exceptional deal. Great location, great service, beautiful view, comfortable beds/air etc...I was VERY IMPRESSED. I've traveled to PV 5 times and stayed at high end properties in other areas...but NEVER ENJOYED Mexico like I did this trip. I'll be back again and again. Mucho Gracias Tropicana...don't change your prices! |
John Ewing - Alaska September 29th, 2007 at 12:18 PM
We are returning to the Tropicana for our fourth time this winter.
The hotel is gorgeous but most of all the staff keeps us coming back. Ricardo, Umberto and all of the beach staff are the definition of service! They remember us and welcome us by name each year. The housekeeping department, front desk and restaurant staffs are all top notch! We won't consider any other hotel in Puerto Vallarta! |
Cheryl Calcagno - Oregon September 2nd, 2007 at 4:38 PM
I just returned from a week at the Tropicana with my 16 year old daughter and 19 year old son. I highly recommend this fine hotel. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a full suite (from a junior suite). The room was immaculate and very comfortable.
All of the staff seemed to take great pride in their work and represented their employers in an excellent light. In a hotel that size you might expect to find at least a few people that did not seem to like their job. This was never the case.
The garden and landscape was very impressive, as was the turtle pond. The reception areas, hallways and rooms were all immaculate. The kids enjoyed the pool as well as the beach.
We were within walking distance to the Malecon and many great shops, though we were secluded from traffic and traffic noises. Please consider staying at this great hotel. |
Heather Howlett - Seattle, WA August 13th, 2007 at 12:58 AM
I stayed at the Tropicana for my first visit to PV (Puerto Vallarta) in February 2005. I am returning this October with my sister, and I wouldn't let her even look at any other hotel. Everything about the Tropicana exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to get there again! |
Jason DeGroodt - Rochester, Minnesota April 18th, 2007 at 1:34 PM
Hotel Tropicana, This is the most beautiful Hotel in all of Puerto Vallarta. This hotel sits right on the beach and has beautiful view in every direction. Sitting on my balcony I over look the pool the ocean and the very nice entry to the hotel where I can people watch.. Walking out from the hotel brings you to old but beautiful streets that take you to shops, cafes and great restaurant. This is my second trip to Puerto Vallarta mexico and I think the real reason I came back is the Hotel Tropicana! There is alway a friendly face around every corner and always eager to help you with anything you need. Next year when I come back I will be staying at the Hotel Tropicana!!! Thank you for a great stay.

I am a three-time returning guest of your hotel and I LOVE it there. I just arrived back home from a week stay with you and I loved it. |

Absolutely love this place! Vacationed there last March for the 1st time and have already booked PV (Puerto Vallarta) again for the same time March 2007 but 11 days instead of 7 days. Beautiful views of the sunset every evening. Very convenient location. Close to all restaurants and nightlife. We can't wait!!! |
Teresa Wyatt - USA September 20th, 2006 at 6:00 PM
My father and I take an annual trip to Mexico and make it to Puerto Vallarta at least every other year!! We were greatly surprised at the Tropicana hotel's cleanliness, size and location. The rooms are very clean, while the beds are hard (as in most Mexico hotels), the views can't be beaten. They have a fantastic pool and courtyard that is clean and well kept. No complaints about this hotel, we will be happy to return!! |
Larry Monson - Ohio May 31st, 2006 at 9:36 PM
We found the hotel property, service, and location to be great. The staff was attentive and the room was always kept clean and tidy. Beach was great and the grounds were beautiful. Great location for those wanting a little more peace and "old world" ambiance. Great restaurants close by (walking distance) with sidewalk tables...a little touch of European outdoors dining. Great restaurants (some obviously with good sous chefs). Tropicana restaurant had simple fare prepared well. The guacamole was the best we had anywhere. Will come here again for sure.
